Chlotetrin
Composition:

Properties:
Chlortetracycline hydrochloride is a bacteriostatic antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline group, which acts by inhibition of protein synthesis.
Chlortetracycline hydrochloride is readily absorbed and distributed in the tissues in broiler chickens and pigs. Blood concentrations may be enhanced by administration with citric acid.
Indications:
For use in the treatment of infections due to susceptible bacteria in broiler chickens and pigs.
Broiler chickens: Chlotetrin is used in the treatment and control of colibacillosis secondary to infectious bursal disease, chronic respiratory disease caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Escherichia coli, and Salmonella enteridis, Salmonella typhimurium and Pasteurella multocida infections.
Pigs: Chlotetrin is used in the treatment and control of respiratory diseases associated with Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Steptococcus suis and toxigenic strains of Pasteurella multocida. It is also used in the treatment and control of rhinitis due to Bordetella bronchiseptica and streptococcal meningitis due to Streptococcus suis type II.
Target species:
Broiler chickens and pigs.
Dosage of administration:
Route: Orally via drinking water
Broiler chickens: one gm of product / litre of drinking water administered daily for up to 5 days.
Pigs: 3.2 gm of product /80 kg body weight (10 litres of drinking water) administered daily for up to 5 days.
Special warning:
Long term use of this product is not recommended as it may lead to the development of bacterial resistance.
This product is not recommended for concurrent administration with any other oral medication.
Do not administer together with antacids, kaolin and iron preparations and in conjunction with bactericidal antibiotics like beta-lactams.
The product should not be used in case of known resistance to other tetracyclines.
Special precautions:
Once the container has been opened, contents must be used within 7 days.
Broiler chickens and pigs should have access only to medicated water during treatment.
Avoid inhalation of dust by wearing a protective mask
Contra – Indications:
This product used only as water soluble powder and not used as feed additive powder
Adverse Effects:
The product is of low toxicity and side effects are rarely encountered. If suspectd adverse reactions occur, treatment should be discontinued immediately.
Withdrawal times :
-Broiler chickens: 3 days
Pigs: 6 days
Not for use in laying birds producing eggs for human consumption.
Storage conditions:
In cool and dry place away from direct sunlight.
Opened sachets should not be stored.
